By Mohammad Al-Mazidi (GUST student)
Fajer Al Mazidi started Kuwait’s first music school 5 years ago, making music more accessible and thus building the country’s culture identity. She stated that Kuwait lacked an official institution with qualified personnel to undertake such a responsibility, until she founded the Kuwait Music Academy.
At a young age, Fajer was not too interested in music and was struggling, however she sparked her passion for it and went on to participate and win in many concerts. She believes music is the foundation to helping students of all ages, build traits and skills that will help them in their future.
Her idea to start the academy began after taking lessons with her music professor. She was disappointed that Kuwait lacked any professional music institution in Kuwait, as well as the lack of qualified music instructors.
She believes that music is a language that enhances and improves society, and her school can help implement it by making it more accessible. Her long-term goals for the school, is to bring further qualified instructors to teach younger groups of children with additional instruments such as guitar and flute. She has confidence that her school has, and will be able to teach life traits and skills that kids can develop such as commitment, confidence, and patience.
The Kuwait Music Academy helped build culture identity through its organized institution and it’s qualified personnel. Something deemed difficult to access, before the founding of the Kuwait Music Academy in 2013.
